My Heavenly Father goes before us

February 22, 2013

“The International Sportsmen’s Expo was so much fun!” I declared on the way home.

P.J. (age 9) asked me how I could have had fun when I didn’t do anything.

J.T. (age 13) quickly informed his younger brother that it is always fun for Mom to watch her kids having fun.

True.

Now then, as for didn’t do anything — let’s see, I pushed my two-month-old twins in the stadium stroller, changed their diapers several times, fed and burped them, assembled lunch for everyone using the wagon as our picnic table, and kept my eyes on all SIX kids to make sure I didn’t lose anyone. I even added a friend’s THREE extra kids to my Watch List while he participated in an archery contest. That’s right. I didn’t do anything.

Children 15 and under were free, and with an early-bird discount, I was able to attend for only $9. Not a bad price for a family outing!

We’ve been to this Expo once before a couple of years ago. I knew what I was getting into. That’s what finally prompted me to buy a new, stadium stroller for the twins and to borrow a wagon for my daughters.

In order to get to the exhibit hall (in the bowels of UOP Stadium), we had to go down a series of five long, steep ramps. I really should have gotten someone to take a picture!

Now then, imagine this: an older momma pushing a double stroller, my two daughters pulling and chasing a wagon, and my two big guys running full-bore ahead! Someone nearby said, “Look! It’s a parade!”

Yes, I suppose it did look like that!

After 5 (F-I-V-E!!) hours of nearly non-stop walking and Expo exploration, I turned my thoughts to going back UP that same long series of steep ramps. I told my sons they MUST help!

As we neared the exit of the exhibit hall, a security guard left his post and walked directly up to me.

“Did we do something wrong or is he another admirer of twins?” I thought to myself. I’ve noticed since the twins came along that I get stopped often by strangers desiring to inquire and admire our babies.

Ugh! I was so weary, I really didn’t want to stop. But then the guard said, “I’ve been waiting and watching for you all day! When I saw you arrive this morning, I knew how hard it would be for you to push that big rig up the ramps. Would you like me to escort your family to the delivery elevator?”

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know that I accepted his helpful offer AND had tears of real joy streaming down my cheeks. What a wonderful day!

My Heavenly Father appoints many angels to guard me and my children!
